I had so many playlists I created this year that I didn't get around to posting yet and that's part of the reason this playlist is extra long. Generally speaking, I've enjoyed a lot of the albums that came out this year, but just as I was saying to someone the other day, the way I consume music has changed so much. I just don't find myself replaying albums from top to bottom as frequently as I have done in the past. Instead, I'll just replay my favourite tracks and of course for some albums, that's only a handful.
I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily, it's just interesting and I'm sure that has a lot to do with the amount of music I consume, constantly coming across new artists, etc my attention span has decreased significantly especially because I'm occupied with so many other things these days.
Having said all that, I still have at least 10 albums I thoroughly enjoyed start to finish and have gone back often to play my favourite tracks. Those albums are:
Don Toliver - Love Sick
Roy Woods - Mixed Emotions
6LACK - Since I Have A Lover
Ragz Originale - Bare Sugar
Maeta - When I Hear Your Name
Little Dragon - Slugs of Love
Doja Cat - Scarlet
Andre 3000 - New Blue Sun
Larry June and The Alchemist - The Great Escape
Odeal - Thoughts I Never Said
Can I also just say, I was highly impressed with two soundtracks to the biggest movies this year, Creed III and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse - I mean, I'm automatically going to love pretty much anything Dreamville put out but still, That soundtrack was amazing! Metro Boomin's work on the Spider-Man soundtrack was incredible too. The diversity of sounds and artists he had on there but still a very much rap heavy compilation of songs that sonically describe so many moments and feelings throughout the movie. I was and still am very impressed with those as well as the movies themselves.
I don't know if 2024 can top this year in terms of quality releases but I would personally love new music from Smino, Cruza, Goldlink, Dvsn and Snoh Alegra.
